Snake Alley Criterium

The biking weekend of excitement actually gets under way with "Friday Night Fever". Friday Night Fever Criterium is a 14 block, 1.024 mile loop course that starts on N 4th Street and High Streets.  Riders will head north to North Street, west to N 5th Street, south to Court Street, and then east to N 4th completing the loop. With a total ascent of 62 feet, this fast and fairly flat twilight criterium brings a new and exciting addition to Snake Alley in 2022!

Due to road construction, the Snake Alley Criterium on Saturday will look a little different in 2022.  It will be held on a twenty-two block course, 1.509 miles per lap with differences in elevation from 591 feet to 686 feet. The course is entirely on city streets, in a downtown commercial area and a historic residential district. A one block long climb is on the historic brick street named Snake Alley, dubbed "the crookedest street in the world." The 276 foot long Snake Alley has 5 switchbacks in a sixty foot climb. The average grade is 12.5 percent in that one block. Bring a suitable gear cluster for that kind of climbing. This is one of the most physically challenging races in the Midwest. Come Race the Snake!!

The legendary Cobble Climb is a grueling 2 block uphill time trial with the first block of brick pavers, followed by the Cobblestone Alley.  Cobblestone Alley is paved with over hundred year old big, bumpy blocks of cobblestone.  The alley will be lined with hundreds of people to cheer you on your Cobble Climb journey.  Registration is from 10:00-11:45 AM at the Steamboat Senior Center - 501 Jefferson St, Burlington, IA with the races beginning at Noon.  Do you have what it takes?

Bring the kids for classic, fun bicycle races on the streets of historical downtown Burlington!  Registration is from 10:00-11:45 AM at the Steamboat Senior Center - 501 Jefferson St, Burlington, IA with the races beginning at Noon. Great news, there is no entry fee!

There are 7 individual races with each race having its own starting line. As the age groups progress, the distance of the races increase. All races finish at the Criterium’s starting line on Jefferson St. The 7 races are:

• 3-4 yr olds (with training wheels or tricycles)
• 3-4 yr olds (without training wheels)
• 5 year olds
• 6 year olds
• 7 year olds
• 8 year olds
• 9 year olds

The top 3 finishers in each category receive a trophy! All participating children receive a free t-shirt & drink!

Helmets Are Required!  Can't wait to see the kids there!
