EVERYONE knows that one person that can’t let a grammar mistake or misspelling go without making a drama production about it! I’m currently dating one and sometimes it’s overly annoying! I’m not trying to offend anyone, but I found this study very interesting! Well… someone got tired of not knowing what type of person makes up an unpaid internet grammar teacher.
PLOS One did a study to find out if they could pinpoint the type of person who goes nuts over grammar errors. This was the first study of its kind. Their finds… quite interesting.
They found that those annoying people that always point out your English flaws, are less agreeable in their everyday lives. After finding that out, they decided that personality traits determine how people react to a misspelling or missed (,) in a Facebook post!
They also found that the extroverted people (AKA… the loud mouths that won’t shut up) Ok… the people like me… Ok… anyone working in radio… tend to overlook typos and grammar errors. Side note… I think it’s because we can make fun of ourselves for it! We always put ourselves out there, so an error is nothing.
The next finding, introverted people tend to hard core judge someone for their mistakes! That judgment last past the mistake. I’m surprised my boyfriend still claims me for all the mistakes I’ve made.
Researchers found that the agreeable people (AKA the easy going, never planners, life is a breeze) types of people are the people you want to have in your life. They are down to Earth people.
Their counterparts… are heartless and cold. OK THIS IS NOT TRUE ABOUT EVERYONE!! THIS IS A GENERAL FINDING!!!
So, next time you go to point out a grammar error… think… do I really want to be classified as a JERK! Here is the whole article if you would like to read it!
