On Thursday, June 21, 2018, Parker from 101.7 The Bull and me, Landon, from Mix 107.3 dueled to bring in the most blood donors. We broadcasted on location at the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center at 3407 East Agency Street next to Lowe’s in Burlington. We also were broadcasting on behalf of our friends at the blood center in Macomb at 1520 West Jackson Street near El Rancherito. Donor Relations Consultant Alicia Pence from the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center brought us the final results Friday morning…
I am so pleased that Macomb ended up having 13 units of blood donated and Burlington had 9 units given — for a total of 22 units. You did that. You made that happen for fellow neighbors and families. Even the district folks from the blood center couldn’t believe how well Macomb in particular did!
Sometimes, supplies get quite low, so these events are so important. People often give after natural disasters like hurricanes, but summer certainly can be an off time with folks involved in work and other activities with their families. I really want to thank everyone for coming out to the blood center in either Burlington or Macomb, whether you were able to give while you were there or not.
Sometimes, hemoglobin or other numbers can be off a hair at times, and so a blood donation is not possible at the time (we want donors to feel well themselves when they leave the center) — and in this case, we did have quite a few deferrals. So, even if you didn’t get to give blood Thursday, there is another similar blood drive coming up on Thursday, August 16, 2018 — you can join us for that. Stay tuned.
Battle of the Broadcasters winner
The winner of our broadcasting event is all of us. Any one of us or our family members could need that blood tomorrow. The winner of the friendly, promotional competition, where votes were cast for either Parker from The Bull or me from The Mix — was me. Thank you for that as well! The Mix hadn’t won one of these events yet, so yes I’m very happy that you helped us bring home the gold!
Real satisfaction comes from serving a cause bigger than yourself — which is what you did by coming out to the blood center. Thank you.
Prizes always spice things up and make everything more fun, so we brought some cool stuff to give away for the blood drive. The winners of our John Deere Classic prize packages, which each includes 4 passes to the John Deere Classic in the Quad Cities in July, $20 to spend while you’re there, plus a free parking pass…
